Magazine front cover with date price and barcode

This is now our magazine front cover with a date, barcode and price to our magazine in the bottom right hand corner, to make it again even more realistic.

Friday, 6 November 2009

This is our completed magazine front cover without the pictures, and just all the words. We have kept to the colour codes of black, white and red, we made 'coming soon to a cinema near you' read because it is one of the most important parts. The extra text we have added in about other news is less important to the main feature - the film, therefore has been put in a smaller font size and in black so it is the last thing you look at.
We have made the magazine title, the mast head and the subtitle the biggest or most colourful to make sure its the first thing to catch the readers eye. We may have to re-arrange the text when we add the pictures in depending on where everything is placed, however we are confident it will work out well.
We are also confident we will complete our magazine by the 10th of November as we just need to cut our pictures out and place them in.

magazine front cover stage 1

This is the first part of our magazine front cover we decided to use the codes and conventions of one of the magazine covers we analysed about 'Sex and the City', including the colours red, black and white.
We wanted to make it quite simple with a white background to make the writing and the picture stand out. We are going to put a main picture under the headline to show a scene from the 'exclusive silent movie'.
We plan to add in another picture at the bottom to show the characters private life to make it seem more realistic, and give the readers what they want to hear. We will also put smaller font at the bottom around both the pictures to show we are including other stories inside the magazine, so that the readers will want to buy and read the rest.

Poster completed

We have now added in the '20th century fox' logo which again was one of the features of a poster we analysed. We are not sure however if this is how we are going to leave it as it does not blend in as well as we may have hoped because of the background colour.

We are thinking of cutting out the background however this may not work because of the white which we want to keep, may be deleted instead of the black but we will experiment and then perhaps make some more changes.

Poster with image, title and 'starring'

This is our poster almost completed, we have now added the main characters, and co-stars into the bottom left hand corner in the same text, font and colour as the title.

We used some of the conventions used on the posters we analysed previously such as the size of the font for each name depending on how important each character is i.e the father and daughter (main characters) are in the biggest letters to stand out the most, and the first names written as they are in the picture on the poster so it is clear who they are.

The picture on our poster gives quite a clear indication of what the film is about, especially after you have seen the trailer as well. We are going to present our poster in an old style like one of the posters we analysed, however because it is being made in the modern day we will also include features that would be used in modern day posters also.

Trailer with some editing

This is our trailer which we have edited a bit, as you can see, the difference from this version to the one posted before hand, we have cut out the close up on the 'Fathers' face of him looking angry, this is because we feel that the audience do not need to see this and should be left to wonder what will happen when he has angrily arrisen from the table. We have slow motioned the 'Father' arrising from the table and also the 'Father hitting the daughter' to give this more impact. We have also cut down the shot of the door and the shot where the daughter falls to the ground as we felt that this went on for too long. However, this still goes on for one minute and around 5 seconds which is too long considering we have to add in the words that appear on the screen on our storyboard, therefore we will either need to cut out some unnessecary shots or cut them down.

Teaser Trailer Analysis

Link to New Moon Teaser Trailer

Even though this genre doesn't apply to our genre, it still shows us the length of teaser trailers and how very little of the film is shown and that it doesn't give away the storyline, it just gives us the suspense and atmosphere, which we hope that we can include in our teaser trailer.

This teaser trailer lasts for 55 seconds, we are aiming ours for a length of 45 - 50 seconds. Each shot show is very short and leaves you wanting to see more of the film. Words appear on the screen in red, which is a colour that indicates danger and fear, that show the emotions occurring at the time of the scenes played, as you can view from our latest storyboard we have also done this.

The music played throughout is eery and sad and there is no actual speech except for a man shouting 'No', which also conveys the impression of danger. There are 14 shots through out the trailer each about one to two seconds long.
